Shoshoni Profile

Overview

Shoshoni is a tiny town located in the state of Wyoming. With a population of 648 people and just one neighborhood, Shoshoni is the 44th largest community in Wyoming.

Shoshoni real estate is some of the most expensive in Wyoming, although Shoshoni house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Shoshoni is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 43.37% of the Shoshoni workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Shoshoni is a town of construction workers and builders, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Shoshoni who work in food service (13.25%), management occupations (7.23%), and sales jobs (6.43%).

Also of interest is that Shoshoni has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Overall, Shoshoni’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Shoshoni is worth considering.

As is often the case in a small town, Shoshoni doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Shoshoni Demographics

The percentage of adults in Shoshoni with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 21.84% for all communities. 14.29% of adults in Shoshoni have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Shoshoni in 2010 was $24,981, which is lower middle income relative to Wyoming, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $99,924 for a family of four. However, Shoshoni contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Shoshoni is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Shoshoni home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Shoshoni residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Shoshoni also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 12.08% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Shoshoni include Irish, English, French , and Scottish.
