Sherwood Profile

Overview

Sherwood is a very small village located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 3,045 people and just one neighborhood, Sherwood is the 210th largest community in Wisconsin. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Sherwood, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Sherwood, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Sherwood’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Sherwood does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $92,903.00.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some villages where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Sherwood is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Sherwood is a village of sales and office workers, managers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Sherwood who work in office and administrative support (15.26%), management occupations (12.61%), and business and financial occupations (9.03%).

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 7.72% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

In addition, Sherwood is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates", which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

Sherwood is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The village’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Sherwood’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

As is often the case in a small village, Sherwood doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Sherwood Demographics

The population of Sherwood is very well educated relative to most cities and towns in the nation, where the average community has 21.84% of its adult population holding a 4-year degree or higher: 35.33% of adults in Sherwood have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Sherwood in 2018 was $37,483, which is wealthy relative to Wisconsin and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $149,932 for a family of four.

The people who call Sherwood home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Sherwood residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Sherwood include German, Dutch, Irish, Polish, and Norwegian.

The most common language spoken in Sherwood is English. Other important languages spoken here include Polish and Italian.
