Sherwood Profile

Overview

Sherwood is a very small village located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 2,865 people and just one neighborhood, Sherwood is the 210th largest community in Wisconsin.

Occupations and Workforce

Sherwood is a decidedly white-collar village, with fully 85.90% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Sherwood is a village of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Sherwood who work in sales jobs (15.90%), office and administrative support (12.16%), and management occupations (10.29%).

Also of interest is that Sherwood has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

A relatively large number of people in Sherwood telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 7.61% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

In addition, Sherwood is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates", which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

Sherwood is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The village’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Sherwood’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

Sherwood is a small village, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Sherwood Demographics

The education level of Sherwood ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Sherwood, 46.45% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Sherwood in 2010 was $40,339, which is wealthy relative to Wisconsin and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $161,356 for a family of four.

The people who call Sherwood home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Sherwood residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Sherwood include Irish, Polish, Dutch, and English.

The most common language spoken in Sherwood is English. Other important languages spoken here include Chinese and Korean.
