Hazelhurst Profile

Overview

Hazelhurst is a very small town located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 2,348 people and just one neighborhood, Hazelhurst is the 239th largest community in Wisconsin.

Hazelhurst real estate is some of the most expensive in Wisconsin, although Hazelhurst house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Hazelhurst isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Hazelhurst are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Hazelhurst is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Hazelhurst who work in sales jobs (18.41%), management occupations (10.79%), and office and administrative support (10.26%).

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 9.72% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Hazelhurst is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Hazelhurst has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Hazelhurst a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Being a small town, Hazelhurst does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Hazelhurst Demographics

In terms of college education, Hazelhurst is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 25.87% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Hazelhurst in 2010 was $27,143, which is upper middle income relative to Wisconsin and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $108,572 for a family of four. However, Hazelhurst contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Hazelhurst home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Hazelhurst residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Hazelhurst include Irish, Polish, English, and Swedish.

The most common language spoken in Hazelhurst is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and German.
