Genola Profile

Overview

Genola is a very small town located in the state of Utah. With a population of 1,419 people and just one neighborhood, Genola is the 128th largest community in Utah.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Genola is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Genola is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Genola who work in office and administrative support (15.67%), sales jobs (12.78%), and management occupations (10.56%).

You will also find that a lot of people in Genola work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.

Also of interest is that Genola has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 14.01% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Genola is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Genola’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

Genola Demographics

The education level of Genola citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 18.44% of adults 25 and older in Genola have a college degree.

The per capita income in Genola in 2010 was $17,217, which is low income relative to Utah and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $68,868 for a family of four. However, Genola contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Genola is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Genola home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Genola residents report their race to be White, followed by Native Hawaiian. Genola also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 11.04% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Genola include Scottish, Danish, German, and European.

The most common language spoken in Genola is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Pacific Island languages.
