Shady Cove Profile

Overview

Shady Cove is a very small city located in the state of Oregon. With a population of 3,022 people and just one neighborhood, Shady Cove is the 108th largest community in Oregon.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Shady Cove is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Shady Cove is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Shady Cove who work in office and administrative support (19.74%), sales jobs (16.17%), and management occupations (13.63%).

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 9.16% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Shady Cove has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Shady Cove has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Shady Cove than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Shady Cove may be for you.

One downside of living in Shady Cove, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 30.35 minutes every day commuting to work.

Shady Cove Demographics

The percentage of adults in Shady Cove who are college-educated is close to the national average for all communities of 21.84%: 18.32% of the adults in Shady Cove have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Shady Cove in 2010 was $17,742, which is low income relative to Oregon and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $70,968 for a family of four.

The people who call Shady Cove home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Shady Cove residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Shady Cove include Irish, English, French , and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Shady Cove is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Russian.
