Carlton Profile

Overview

Carlton is a very small city located in the state of Oregon. With a population of 2,067 people and just one neighborhood, Carlton is the 129th largest community in Oregon. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Carlton, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Carlton, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Carlton’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Carlton does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $53,125.00.

Carlton home prices are not only among the most expensive in Oregon, but Carlton real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Carlton is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Carlton is a city of service providers, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Carlton who work in sales jobs (14.05%), management occupations (9.84%), and office and administrative support (7.38%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Carlton is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The city’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Carlton’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

Being a small city, Carlton does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Carlton Demographics

The citizens of Carlton are slightly less educated than the national average of 21.84% for the average city or town: 14.59% of adults in Carlton have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree

The per capita income in Carlton in 2010 was $21,620, which is middle income relative to Oregon and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $86,480 for a family of four. However, Carlton contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Carlton is a somewhat ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Carlton home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Carlton residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Carlton include Irish, English, Italian, and Welsh.

The most common language spoken in Carlton is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
