Galena Profile

Overview

Galena is a tiny village located in the state of Ohio. With a population of 698 people and just one neighborhood, Galena is the 635th largest community in Ohio. Much of the housing stock in Galena was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.

Galena real estate is some of the most expensive in Ohio, although Galena house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some villages, Galena isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Galena are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Galena is a village of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Galena who work in office and administrative support (16.12%), sales jobs (16.12%), and business and financial occupations (9.81%).

Also of interest is that Galena has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 9.18% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Galena is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Galena really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Galena perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

Galena is a small village, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Galena Demographics

The population of Galena is very well educated relative to most cities and towns in the nation, where the average community has 21.84% of its adult population holding a 4-year degree or higher: 36.42% of adults in Galena have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Galena in 2010 was $30,632, which is wealthy relative to Ohio, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $122,528 for a family of four. However, Galena contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Galena home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Galena residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Galena include English, Irish, Italian, and French .

The most common language spoken in Galena is English. Other important languages spoken here include Hindi and German.
