Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns, Los Cerrillos isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Los Cerrillos are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Los Cerrillos is a town of managers, service providers and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Los Cerrillos who work in management occupations (42.57%), maintenance occupations (12.84%) and food service (12.84%).
Of important note, Los Cerrillos is also a town of artists. Los Cerrillos has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Los Cerrillos’s character.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 12.16% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
Overall, Los Cerrillos’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Los Cerrillos has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Los Cerrillos has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Los Cerrillos than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Los Cerrillos may be for you.
One downside of living in Los Cerrillos, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 31.85 minutes every day commuting to work.
Los Cerrillos is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Los Cerrillos isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.69% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
Being a small town, Los Cerrillos does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
