Sargent Profile

Overview

Sargent is a tiny city located in the state of Nebraska. With a population of 506 people and just one neighborhood, Sargent is the 156th largest community in Nebraska. Much of the housing stock in Sargent was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic cities in the country.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities, Sargent isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Sargent are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Sargent is a city of sales and office workers, managers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Sargent who work in management occupations (15.41%), sales jobs (15.05%), and maintenance occupations (10.04%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Sargent is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Sargent a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The city’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Sargent has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Sargent’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Sargent has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Sargent a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Being a small city, Sargent does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Sargent Demographics

The percentage of adults in Sargent with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 21.84% for all communities. 15.44% of adults in Sargent have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Sargent in 2010 was $19,456, which is low income relative to Nebraska, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $77,824 for a family of four.

The people who call Sargent home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Sargent residents report their race to be White. Sargent also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 10.56% of the city’s residents.
