Hoskins Profile

Overview

Hoskins is a tiny village located in the state of Nebraska. With a population of 295 people and just one neighborhood, Hoskins is the 178th largest community in Nebraska. Much of the housing stock in Hoskins was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Hoskins is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 40.46% of the Hoskins workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Hoskins is a village of service providers, professionals, and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Hoskins who work in management occupations (9.83%), office and administrative support (9.25%), and healthcare (8.67%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Hoskins is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Hoskins a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The village’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Hoskins has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Hoskins’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

As is often the case in a small village, Hoskins doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Hoskins Demographics

The percentage of people in Hoskins with college degrees is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%: just 11.71% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Hoskins in 2010 was $27,855, which is upper middle income relative to Nebraska, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $111,420 for a family of four. However, Hoskins contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Hoskins home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Hoskins residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Hoskins include German, English, Czech, Swedish, and Irish.

The most common language spoken in Hoskins is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
