WORCESTER, MA (March 10, 2003) – Jobs may be hard to come by in the current economy, but career starters and recent college graduates can improve their odds greatly by targeting one of America’s top 5 job growth metro areas.

Andrew Schiller, a PhD geographer and the creator of NeighborhoodScout.com, recently surveyed all 270+ metro areas in the U.S. to identify the top 5 for job growth. Using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Schiller found – despite the downturn in the national economy – several metro areas that are true bright spots for those freshly trained and seeking to start a career.

Once these top 5 metros were identified, Schiller used NeighborhoodScout to find neighborhoods in each that would be perfect for young people starting a career.

“Career starters want to go where the jobs are, but finding a good area to live when moving to a brand new city is very important, especially for recent graduates who may be leaving behind a close-knit group of friends from college,” said Schiller.

To identify great neighborhoods for career starters, Schiller chose predominantly non-married households (singles), many people in their 20s and 30s, with college educations or even graduate degrees, where the housing is mainly rental apartments, and where many people are in professional occupations.

“In the current economy, career starters can use all the help they can get,” said Schiller. “Using NeighborhoodScout.com, we uncovered the top 5 areas where educated career starters would find many people like themselves, with good opportunities for friendships, socializing, romance, and peer support – a great place to get started in a new area with terrific job growth.”

Here are America’s top 5 areas for job growth in 2002, and the top neighborhoods in each one for career starters to consider:
