Varnado Profile

Overview

Varnado is a very small village located in the state of Louisiana. With a population of 327 people and just one neighborhood, Varnado is the 188th largest community in Louisiana.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some villages, Varnado isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Varnado are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Varnado is a village of service providers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Varnado who work in office and administrative support (16.36%), healthcare (10.00%), and teaching (10.00%).

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Varnado has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Varnado has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Varnado than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Varnado may be for you.

Being a small village, Varnado does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Varnado Demographics

The citizens of Varnado have a very low rate of college education: just 7.96% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, compared to a national average of 21.84% for all cities.

The per capita income in Varnado in 2010 was $15,024, which is low income relative to Louisiana and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $60,096 for a family of four. Varnado also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 33.43% of its population below the federal poverty line.

Varnado is a somewhat ethnically-diverse village. The people who call Varnado home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups.
