Raymond Profile

Overview

Raymond is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 2,449 people and just one neighborhood, Raymond is the 608th largest community in California.

Housing costs in Raymond are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Raymond isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Raymond are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Raymond is a town of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Raymond who work in office and administrative support (15.94%), management occupations (9.23%), and teaching (8.11%).

A relatively large number of people in Raymond telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 12.94% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Raymond has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Raymond has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Raymond than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Raymond may be for you.

One downside of living in Raymond, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 35.60 minutes every day commuting to work.

Raymond is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Raymond Demographics

The education level of Raymond citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 17.46% of adults 25 and older in Raymond have a college degree.

The per capita income in Raymond in 2010 was $29,246, which is middle income relative to California, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $116,984 for a family of four. However, Raymond contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Raymond is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Raymond home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Raymond residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Raymond also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 15.03% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Raymond include English, Irish, Italian, and Danish.

The most common language spoken in Raymond is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Russian.
