Raymond Profile

Overview

Raymond is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 2,449 people and just one neighborhood, Raymond is the 608th largest community in California.

Housing costs in Raymond are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Raymond is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Raymond is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Raymond who work in office and administrative support (16.62%), management occupations (10.87%), and sales jobs (8.44%).

Also of interest is that Raymond has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 10.66% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Raymond has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Raymond has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Raymond than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Raymond may be for you.

One downside of living in Raymond is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Raymond, the average commute to work is 36.63 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

Being a small town, Raymond does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Raymond Demographics

In terms of college education, the citizens of Raymond rank slightly lower than the national average. 16.35% of adults 25 and older in Raymond have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, while 21.84% of adults have a 4-year degree or higher in the average American community.

The per capita income in Raymond in 2010 was $30,634, which is upper middle income relative to California and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $122,536 for a family of four. However, Raymond contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Raymond is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Raymond home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Raymond residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Raymond also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 15.07% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Raymond include English, Irish, Italian, and Danish.

The most common language spoken in Raymond is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Korean.
