Polacca Profile

Overview

Polacca is a very small town located in the state of Arizona. With a population of 4,227 people and just one neighborhood, Polacca is the 80th largest community in Arizona.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Polacca isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Polacca are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Polacca is a town of professionals, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Polacca who work in management occupations (12.64%), office and administrative support (10.64%), and teaching (9.50%).

Of important note, Polacca is also a town of artists. Polacca has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Polacca’s character.

A relatively large number of people in Polacca telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 26.64% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Polacca has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Polacca has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Polacca than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Polacca may be for you.

Polacca Demographics

The rate of college-level education in Polacca is quite a bit lower than the national average among all cities of 21.84%: just 11.50% of people here over 25 have a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree.

The per capita income in Polacca in 2010 was $12,665, which is lower middle income relative to Arizona, and low income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $50,660 for a family of four. However, Polacca contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Polacca also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 37.92% of its population below the federal poverty line.

The people who call Polacca home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Polacca residents report their race to be Native American, followed by White. Important ancestries of people in Polacca include Swiss, Swedish, Scottish, and Irish.

The most common language spoken in Polacca is English. Other important languages spoken here include Native American languages and Navajo.
