Fountain Lake Profile

Overview

Fountain Lake is a tiny town located in the state of Arkansas. With a population of 509 people and just one neighborhood, Fountain Lake is the 235th largest community in Arkansas.

Fountain Lake real estate is some of the most expensive in Arkansas, although Fountain Lake house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Fountain Lake is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Fountain Lake is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Fountain Lake who work in office and administrative support (13.27%), healthcare (8.67%), and sales jobs (7.14%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.25% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Fountain Lake has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Fountain Lake has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Fountain Lake than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Fountain Lake may be for you.

One downside of living in Fountain Lake is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Fountain Lake, the average commute to work is 32.56 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

Fountain Lake is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Fountain Lake Demographics

The percentage of adults in Fountain Lake with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 21.84% for all communities. 15.36% of adults in Fountain Lake have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Fountain Lake in 2010 was $20,112, which is upper middle income relative to Arkansas, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $80,448 for a family of four. However, Fountain Lake contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Fountain Lake home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Fountain Lake residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Fountain Lake include Irish, German, Scottish, and French .

The most common language spoken in Fountain Lake is English. Other important languages spoken here include African languages and Hebrew.
