Thayne Profile

Overview

Thayne is a tiny town located in the state of Wyoming. With a population of 363 people and just one neighborhood, Thayne is the 48th largest community in Wyoming.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Thayne isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Thayne are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Thayne is a town of service providers, construction workers and builders, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Thayne who work in food service (21.18%), office and administrative support (12.35%), and sales jobs (7.65%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 11.76% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Thayne’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Thayne has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Thayne a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Despite the fact that it is a small town, Thayne has quite a few people who take public transportation – mostly the bus - for their daily commute to work. This helps to fill a real need in the town for affordable transportation.

Thayne Demographics

The percentage of adults in Thayne with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 21.84% for all communities. 15.64% of adults in Thayne have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Thayne in 2010 was $16,753, which is low income relative to Wyoming and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $67,012 for a family of four.

The people who call Thayne home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Thayne residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Thayne also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 11.34% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Thayne include Scottish, Irish, European, and Swedish.

The most common language spoken in Thayne is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and African languages.
