Odessa is a tiny town located in the state of Washington. With a population of 868 people and just one neighborhood, Odessa is the 241st largest community in Washington.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns, Odessa isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Odessa are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Odessa is a town of professionals, sales and office workers and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Odessa who work in management occupations (13.78%), office and administrative support (11.31%) and farm management occupations (9.54%).
Another important characteristic of Odessa is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
Of important note, Odessa is also a town of artists. Odessa has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Odessa’s character.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 9.09% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
Overall, Odessa’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.
The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Odessa has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Odessa a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
One of the benefits of Odessa is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 13.77 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.
