Alta is a tiny town located in the state of Utah. With a population of 390 people and just one neighborhood, Alta is the 143rd largest community in Utah.
Real Estate Prices
Alta home prices are not only among the most expensive in Utah, but Alta real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns, Alta isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Alta are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Alta is a town of service providers, professionals and transportation and shipping workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Alta who work in personal care services (17.09%), healthcare (11.11%) and maintenance occupations (8.55%).
Of important note, Alta is also a town of artists. Alta has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Alta’s character.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 15.45% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
Another notable thing is that Alta is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.
Overall, Alta’s crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation, which makes a great place to live if safety is an important concern.
One of the benefits of Alta is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 16.21 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.
Even though Alta is a smaller town, it has many people who hop on public transportation – mostly taxis for their daily commute to work. Typically, these people are commuting to good jobs in the surrounding cities.
