Ackerly Profile

Overview

Ackerly is a tiny city located in the state of Texas. With a population of 231 people and just one neighborhood, Ackerly is the 1018th largest community in Texas. Much of the housing stock in Ackerly was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic cities in the country.

Occupations and Workforce

When you are in Ackerly, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 73.68% of Ackerly’s employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 27.7% that do. Overall, Ackerly is a city of farmers, fishers, or foresters, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Ackerly who work in farm management occupations (40.35%), maintenance occupations (8.77%), and management occupations (7.02%).

Another important characteristic of Ackerly is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Ackerly has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Ackerly has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Ackerly than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Ackerly may be for you.

Ackerly Demographics

Ackerly ranks among the bottom of the nation in terms of college education compared to other cities and towns: only 4.29% of people over 25 have a college degree.

The per capita income in Ackerly in 2010 was $19,619, which is lower middle income relative to Texas and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $78,476 for a family of four.

Ackerly is a somewhat ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Ackerly home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Ackerly residents report their race to be White. Ackerly also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 58.20% of the city’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Ackerly include Italian, English, Irish, and Swedish.

Ackerly also has a high percentage of its population that was born in another country: 39.34%.

The most common language spoken in Ackerly is Spanish. Other important languages spoken here include English and German.
