Grantham is a very small town located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 2,367 people and just one neighborhood, Grantham is the 566th largest community in Pennsylvania.
Occupations and Workforce
Grantham is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 97.35% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Grantham is a town of service providers, sales and office workers and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Grantham who work in food service (25.47%), office and administrative support (13.93%) and maintenance occupations (13.85%).
Of important note, Grantham is also a town of artists. Grantham has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Grantham’s character.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 12.99% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
Grantham is a place where college students are a big part of the character and culture of the town. Small towns have often struggled with declining populations over the past few decades, but the presence of such a large college student population has helped Grantham to fight this trend. Not only does the college population add spending and jobs to local economy, but it also contributes a very tangible, youthful energy to the town.
The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Grantham has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Grantham a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Grantham spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 10.39 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the town are less than they would otherwise be.
As is often the case in a small town, Grantham doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
