Calvin is a tiny town located in the state of Oklahoma. With a population of 287 people and just one neighborhood, Calvin is the 317th largest community in Oklahoma.
Occupations and Workforce
Calvin is a blue-collar town, with 37.35% of people working in blue-collar occupations, while the average in America is just 27.7%. Overall, Calvin is a town of sales and office workers, service providers and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Calvin who work in office and administrative support (20.48%), food service (12.05%) and farm management occupations (9.64%).
There are many members of the armed forces living in Calvin. You will notice when you visit or live here that some of the people you meet or see around town are employed by the armed services - even if they are not always in uniform.
You will also find that a lot of people in Calvin work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 9.41% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Calvin has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Calvin a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
Calvin is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
