Balko is a very small town located in the state of Oklahoma. With a population of 1,293 people and just one neighborhood, Balko is the 181st largest community in Oklahoma.
Occupations and Workforce
Balko is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Balko is a town of managers, sales and office workers and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Balko who work in management occupations (22.08%), office and administrative support (11.04%) and teaching (7.62%).
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 8.36% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Balko has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Balko a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
