Edwards is a tiny village located in the state of New York. With a population of 433 people and just one neighborhood, Edwards is the 862nd largest community in New York. Much of the housing stock in Edwards was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some villages where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Edwards is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Edwards is a village of sales and office workers, professionals and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Edwards who work in office and administrative support (15.04%), sales jobs (7.96%) and healthcare suport services (7.96%).
Also of interest is that Edwards has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 8.04% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
The overall crime rate in Edwards is one of the lowest in the US. This makes it one of the safer places to live in the country in terms of crime.
The village is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Edwards has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Edwards a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
Being a small village, Edwards does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
