Canisteo is a very small village located in the state of New York. With a population of 2,224 people and just one neighborhood, Canisteo is the 535th largest community in New York. Canisteo has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic villages.

Unlike some villages where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Canisteo is neither predominantly one nor the other.
