Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Sunapee is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Sunapee is a town of professionals, sales and office workers and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Sunapee who work in office and administrative support (12.85%), teaching (11.45%) and management occupations (10.23%).
Also of interest is that Sunapee has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Setting & Lifestyle
Another notable thing is that Sunapee is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.
Because of many things, Sunapee is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Sunapee a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Sunapee has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Sunapee’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Sunapee has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Sunapee has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Sunapee than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Sunapee may be for you.
Being a small town, Sunapee does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
