Occupations and Workforce
Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Wanchese is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 38.56% of the Wanchese workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Wanchese is a town of sales and office workers, service providers and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Wanchese who work in office and administrative support (20.27%), sales jobs (11.19%) and farm management occupations (9.83%).
Of important note, Wanchese is also a town of artists. Wanchese has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Wanchese’s character.
Setting & Lifestyle
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Wanchese has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Wanchese has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Wanchese than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Wanchese may be for you.
Wanchese is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.
Residents of the town have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 13.84 minutes getting to work every day.
Being a small town, Wanchese does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
