Occupations and Workforce
Indian Beach is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 97.78% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Indian Beach is a town of sales and office workers, managers and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Indian Beach who work in sales jobs (25.56%), management occupations (23.33%) and food service (22.22%).
Setting & Lifestyle
Another notable thing is that Indian Beach is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.
In addition, Indian Beach is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates", which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Indian Beach has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Indian Beach has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Indian Beach than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Indian Beach may be for you.
Indian Beach is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.
As is often the case in a small town, Indian Beach doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
