Bogue Profile

Overview

Bogue is a tiny coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of North Carolina. With a population of 701 people and just one neighborhood, Bogue is the 446th largest community in North Carolina.

Bogue real estate is some of the most expensive in North Carolina, although Bogue house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Bogue is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Bogue is a town of service providers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Bogue who work in sales jobs (10.91%), office and administrative support (10.15%), and food service (9.14%).

Of important note, Bogue is also a town of artists. Bogue has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Bogue’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

Bogue is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Bogue’s overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Bogue has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Bogue has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Bogue than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Bogue may be for you.

Bogue is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.

Being a small town, Bogue does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Bogue Demographics

The percentage of adults in Bogue who are college-educated is close to the national average for all communities of 21.84%: 18.20% of the adults in Bogue have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Bogue in 2010 was $26,116, which is upper middle income relative to North Carolina and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $104,464 for a family of four. However, Bogue contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Bogue home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Bogue residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Bogue include Irish, German, Italian, and French .
