Medina Profile

Overview

Medina is a very small city located in the state of Minnesota. With a population of 5,973 people and just one neighborhood, Medina is the 148th largest community in Minnesota. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Medina, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Medina, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Medina’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Medina does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $126,161.00.

Medina home prices are not only among the most expensive in Minnesota, but Medina real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Medina is a decidedly white-collar city, with fully 87.38% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Medina is a city of sales and office workers, managers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Medina who work in management occupations (21.75%), sales jobs (18.60%), and office and administrative support (13.09%).

Of important note, Medina is also a city of artists. Medina has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Medina’s character.

Also of interest is that Medina has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.77% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Medina is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Medina really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Medina perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

Medina Demographics

Do you have a 4-year college degree or graduate degree? If so, you may feel right at home in Medina. 59.21% of adults here have a 4-year degree or graduate degree, whereas the national average for all cities and towns is just 21.84%.

The per capita income in Medina in 2010 was $83,803, which is wealthy relative to Minnesota and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $335,212 for a family of four.

The people who call Medina home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Medina residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Medina include Irish, Swedish, Norwegian, and English.

The most common language spoken in Medina is English. Other important languages spoken here include Chinese and Spanish.
