Minden City is a tiny village located in the state of Michigan. With a population of 191 people and just one neighborhood, Minden City is the 614th largest community in Michigan. Minden City has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.
Occupations and Workforce
Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Minden City is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 43.90% of the Minden City workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Minden City is a village of service providers, sales and office workers and transportation and shipping workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Minden City who work in sales jobs (13.41%), personal care services (10.98%) and office and administrative support (6.10%).
Also of interest is that Minden City has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 8.86% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
The overall crime rate in Minden City is one of the lowest in the US. This makes it one of the safer places to live in the country in terms of crime.
It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Minden City has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Minden City has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Minden City than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Minden City may be for you.
As is often the case in a small village, Minden City doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
