Betterton is a tiny coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Maryland. With a population of 334 people and just one neighborhood, Betterton is the 257th largest community in Maryland. Betterton has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Betterton is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Betterton is a town of managers, service providers and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Betterton who work in management occupations (15.54%), teaching (10.14%) and maintenance occupations (10.14%).
Setting & Lifestyle
Another notable thing is that Betterton is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.
Betterton’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.
Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Betterton is worth considering.
Betterton is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.
In Betterton, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 38.47 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.
Being a small town, Betterton does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
