Kanopolis Profile

Overview

Kanopolis is a tiny city located in the state of Kansas. With a population of 474 people and just one neighborhood, Kanopolis is the 248th largest community in Kansas. Kanopolis has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic cities.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Kanopolis is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 36.59% of the Kanopolis workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Kanopolis is a city of sales and office workers, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Kanopolis who work in office and administrative support (18.70%), sales jobs (10.16%), and food service (4.88%).

Setting & Lifestyle

Kanopolis’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.

The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Kanopolis has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Kanopolis a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Kanopolis spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 18.16 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the city are less than they would otherwise be.

As is often the case in a small city, Kanopolis doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Kanopolis Demographics

The percentage of people in Kanopolis with college degrees is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 21.84%: just 11.63% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Kanopolis in 2010 was $24,305, which is upper middle income relative to Kansas, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $97,220 for a family of four. However, Kanopolis contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Kanopolis home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Kanopolis residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Kanopolis include Czech, Irish, English, and Swedish.
