Hodgkins Profile

Overview

Hodgkins is a very small village located in the state of Illinois. With a population of 1,868 people and just one neighborhood, Hodgkins is the 498th largest community in Illinois.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some villages, Hodgkins isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Hodgkins are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Hodgkins is a village of service providers, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Hodgkins who work in food service (20.98%), office and administrative support (10.88%), and sales jobs (8.99%).

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Hodgkins has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Hodgkins has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Hodgkins than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Hodgkins may be for you.

Even though Hodgkins is a smaller village, it has many people who hop on public transportation – mostly the bus for their daily commute to work. Typically, these people are commuting to good jobs in the surrounding cities.

Hodgkins Demographics

The population of Hodgkins has a very low overall level of education: only 7.93% of people over 25 hold a 4-year college degree or higher.

The per capita income in Hodgkins in 2010 was $19,837, which is low income relative to Illinois, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $79,348 for a family of four. However, Hodgkins contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Hodgkins is a somewhat ethnically-diverse village. The people who call Hodgkins home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Hodgkins residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Hodgkins also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 46.09% of the village’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Hodgkins include Irish, Polish, Italian, and English.

In addition, Hodgkins has a lot of people living here who were born outside of the US (28.88%).

The most common language spoken in Hodgkins is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
