West Bend Profile

Overview

West Bend is a tiny city located in the state of Iowa. With a population of 759 people and just one neighborhood, West Bend is the 314th largest community in Iowa.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, West Bend is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, West Bend is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in West Bend who work in office and administrative support (12.47%), management occupations (10.85%), and sales jobs (9.01%).

Of important note, West Bend is also a city of artists. West Bend has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape West Bend’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) West Bend has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. West Bend has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in West Bend than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, West Bend may be for you.

One of the benefits of West Bend is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 13.37 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

West Bend is a small city, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

West Bend Demographics

The percentage of adults in West Bend with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 21.84% for all communities. 13.29% of adults in West Bend have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in West Bend in 2010 was $23,878, which is middle income relative to Iowa and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $95,512 for a family of four.

The people who call West Bend home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of West Bend residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in West Bend include Swiss, Irish, Norwegian, and English.

The most common language spoken in West Bend is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and German.
