Hastings is a tiny town located in the state of Florida. With a population of 620 people and just one neighborhood, Hastings is the 444th largest community in Florida.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Hastings is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Hastings is a town of service providers, professionals and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Hastings who work in sales jobs (15.83%), personal care services (10.42%) and food service (9.58%).
Also of interest is that Hastings has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
A relatively large number of people in Hastings telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 10.83% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Hastings has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Hastings a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
One downside of living in Hastings, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 30.77 minutes every day commuting to work. However, local public transit is widely used. For those who would prefer to avoid driving entirely and leave their car at home, it may be an option to use the transit instead.
For a small town, Hastings has a lot of people who use public transit to get to work, and those that do mostly ride the bus. This suggests that a real need for low-cost transportation in Hastings exists, and local transit is helping to meet that need.
