North Canaan is a very small town located in the state of Connecticut. With a population of 3,214 people and just one neighborhood, North Canaan is the 146th largest community in Connecticut. Much of the housing stock in North Canaan was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns, North Canaan isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in North Canaan are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, North Canaan is a town of service providers, managers and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in North Canaan who work in management occupations (14.77%), office and administrative support (11.87%) and food service (7.21%).

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) North Canaan has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. North Canaan has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in North Canaan than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. North Canaan is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
