Ridgway Profile

Overview

Ridgway is a tiny town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 977 people and just one neighborhood, Ridgway is the 158th largest community in Colorado. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Ridgway, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Ridgway, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Ridgway’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Ridgway does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $51,442.00.

Ridgway home prices are not only among the most expensive in Colorado, but Ridgway real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Ridgway is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 86.68% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Ridgway is a town of service providers, professionals, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Ridgway who work in management occupations (15.50%), food service (11.57%), and office and administrative support (9.61%).

Of important note, Ridgway is also a town of artists. Ridgway has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Ridgway’s character.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.47% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Ridgway’s overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the nation, making it a very safe place to live.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Ridgway has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Ridgway has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Ridgway than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Ridgway may be for you.

Residents of the town have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 19.13 minutes getting to work every day.

Ridgway is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Ridgway Demographics

If knowledge is power, Ridgway is a pretty powerful place. 52.88% of the adults in Ridgway have earned a 4-year college degree, masters degree, MD, law degree, or even PhD. Compare that to the national average of 21.84% for all cities and towns.

The per capita income in Ridgway in 2010 was $29,808, which is upper middle income relative to Colorado and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $119,232 for a family of four. However, Ridgway contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Ridgway home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Ridgway residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Ridgway include Irish, English, Italian, and Dutch.

The most common language spoken in Ridgway is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Russian.
