Laporte is a very small town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 2,561 people and just one neighborhood, Laporte is the 110th largest community in Colorado.
Real Estate Prices
Housing costs in Laporte are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Colorado.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Laporte is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Laporte is a town of professionals, sales and office workers and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Laporte who work in sales jobs (13.51%), maintenance occupations (9.41%) and office and administrative support (6.30%).
Of important note, Laporte is also a town of artists. Laporte has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Laporte’s character.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 7.32% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Laporte has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Laporte has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Laporte than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Laporte may be for you.
Being a small town, Laporte does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
