Creede is a tiny town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 282 people and just one neighborhood, Creede is the 213th largest community in Colorado. Creede has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Real Estate Prices
Housing costs in Creede are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Colorado.
Occupations and Workforce
Creede is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Creede is a town of professionals, managers and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Creede who work in management occupations (24.04%), sales jobs (14.42%) and teaching (9.62%).
And if you like science, one thing you'll find is that Creede has lots of scientists living in town - whether they be life scientists, physical scientists (like astronomers), or social scientists (like geographers!). So, if you're scientific-minded, you might like it here too.
Of important note, Creede is also a town of artists. Creede has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Creede’s character.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 12.50% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
Another notable thing is that Creede is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town.
Because of many things, Creede is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Creede really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Creede perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.
Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Creede is worth considering.
One of the benefits of Creede is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 13.93 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.
