Setting & Lifestyle
Because there are quite a few people attending college in Black Hawk, it is thought of as a college town. To the benefit of the many students in the area, Black Hawk provides a number of services, amenities and opportunities geared towards their needs and activities.
It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Black Hawk has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Black Hawk has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Black Hawk than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Black Hawk may be for you.
One of the benefits of Black Hawk is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 18.70 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.
For a small city, Black Hawk has a lot of people who use public transit to get to work, and those that do mostly ride the bus. This suggests that a real need for low-cost transportation in Black Hawk exists, and local transit is helping to meet that need.
