Niland is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 981 people and just one neighborhood, Niland is the 710th largest community in California.
Occupations and Workforce
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Niland is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Niland is a town of service providers, farmers, fishers, or foresters and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Niland who work in farm management occupations (23.93%), personal care services (18.36%) and maintenance occupations (15.41%).
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 18.36% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
Being a small town, Niland does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
