Alcova is a tiny town located in the state of Wyoming. With a population of 211 people and just one neighborhood, Alcova is the 62nd largest community in Wyoming.
Alcova is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 90.48% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Alcova is a town of managers, professionals, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Alcova who work in farm management (51.19%), teaching (21.43%), and sales jobs (9.52%).
Another important characteristic of Alcova is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
Alcova is a major vacation destination. Much of the town's population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependant on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Alcova's population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.
Alcova is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Alcova isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 100% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
Being a small town, Alcova does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
The overall education level of Alcova citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 31.65% of adults in Alcova have at least a bachelor's degree, and the average American community has 14.96%.
The per capita income in Alcova in 2000 was $24,495, which is wealthy relative to Wyoming, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $97,980 for a family of four.
The people who call Alcova home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Alcova is White, followed by African-American. Important ancestries of people in Alcova include German, Swedish, Scottish, French, Scotch-Irish, Irish, and English.
The most common language spoken in Alcova is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and French.
