Wittenberg is a very small town located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 3,073 people and just one neighborhood, Wittenberg is the 212nd largest community in Wisconsin. Wittenberg has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Wittenberg is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 40.2% of the Wittenberg workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Wittenberg is a town of sales and office workers, production and manufacturing workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Wittenberg who work in office and administrative support jobs (9.99%), sales jobs (8.23%), and farm management (6.33%).
Another important characteristic of Wittenberg is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 9.42% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Wittenberg is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
The rate of college-level education in Wittenberg is quite a bit lower than the national average among all cities of 14.96%: just 11.20% of people here over 25 have a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree.
The per capita income in Wittenberg in 2000 was $17,409, which is lower middle income relative to Wisconsin, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $69,636 for a family of four.
The people who call Wittenberg home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Wittenberg is White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Wittenberg include German, Polish, and Norwegian.
