About Owen

Owen is a very small town located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 2,587 people and just one neighborhood, Owen is the 243rd largest community in Wisconsin. Owen has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

When you are in Owen, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 41.6% of Owen's employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 24.7% that do. Overall, Owen is a town of managers, service providers, and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Owen who work in farm management (13.20%), office and administrative support jobs (8.29%), and food service (7.03%).

In addition, many people in Owen have jobs in agriculture, more so than in most other communities in America. As a result, you will see quite a number of farms around town.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 18.29% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

As is often the case in a small town, Owen doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
