Starbuck is a tiny town located in the state of Washington. With a population of 115 people and just one neighborhood, Starbuck is the 292nd largest community in Washington. Starbuck has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Starbuck is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 48.8% of the Starbuck workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Starbuck is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and transportation and shipping workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Starbuck who work in teaching (14.63%), building maintenance and grounds keeping (12.20%), and office and administrative support jobs (12.20%).
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 7.69% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Starbuck is a major retirement destination. In fact, people 65 and over make up 33.04% of the population. For those considering a place to retire, Starbuck may be a good choice because much of the town's services and social community are oriented toward the over-65 demographic.
One downside of living in Starbuck is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Starbuck, the average commute to work is 31.25 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average. However, it is a pedestrian-friendly town. Many of Starbuck's neighborhoods are dense enough and have amenities close enough together that people find it feasible to get around on foot.
As is often the case in a small town, Starbuck doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The citizens of Starbuck have a very low rate of college education: just 9.09% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, compared to a national average of 14.96% for all cities.
The per capita income in Starbuck in 2000 was $14,770, which is lower middle income relative to Washington and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $59,080 for a family of four.
The people who call Starbuck home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Starbuck is White, followed by African-American. Important ancestries of people in Starbuck include English, French, and German.
The most common language spoken in Starbuck is English. Some people also speak Spanish.
