Garfield is a tiny town located in the state of Washington. With a population of 885 people and just one neighborhood, Garfield is the 256th largest community in Washington. Garfield has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Garfield is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Garfield is a town of professionals, managers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Garfield who work in office and administrative support jobs (12.36%), management occupations (11.46%), and farm management (6.29%).
Another important characteristic of Garfield is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.35% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Because of many things, Garfield is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Garfield a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Garfield has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Garfield's overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.
As is often the case in a small town, Garfield doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The education level of Garfield citizens is substantially higher than the average US city or town, as 25.04% of adults in Garfield have at least a bachelor's degree.
The per capita income in Garfield in 2000 was $16,860, which is lower middle income relative to Washington, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $67,440 for a family of four.
The people who call Garfield home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Garfield is White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Garfield include German, English, Irish, Scotch-Irish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish.
The most common language spoken in Garfield is English.
