Mountain Home is a tiny town located in the state of Texas. With a population of 498 people and just one neighborhood, Mountain Home is the 802nd largest community in Texas.
Mountain Home is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Mountain Home is a town of professionals, managers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Mountain Home who work in healthcare (11.63%), farm management (11.16%), and management occupations (7.91%).

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 19.53% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Mountain Home is a major vacation destination. Much of the town's population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependant on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Mountain Home's population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.
Being a small town, Mountain Home does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
The overall education level of Mountain Home citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 27.81% of adults in Mountain Home have at least a bachelor's degree, and the average American community has 14.96%.
The per capita income in Mountain Home in 2000 was $18,923, which is upper middle income relative to Texas and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $75,692 for a family of four.
