Manchaca is a very small town located in the state of Texas. With a population of 3,217 people and just one neighborhood, Manchaca is the 451st largest community in Texas.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Manchaca is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Manchaca is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Manchaca who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.90%), management occupations (10.12%), and sales jobs (9.07%).
Also of interest is that Manchaca has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Of important note, Manchaca is also a town of artists. Manchaca has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Manchaca's character.
In addition, Manchaca is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates." Urban sophisticates are people who are both educated and wealthy, and thus tend to be older, richer, and more established than young professionals. "Urban sophisticates" is not just about being educated and well-off financially: it is a point of view and state of mind, one that you might call 'urbaneness.' But such people can and do regularly live in small towns, suburbs and rural areas, as well as in big cities. They read, support the arts and high-end shops, and love travel.
Because of many things, Manchaca is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Manchaca a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Manchaca has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Manchaca's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.
Manchaca is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Manchaca, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 96.53% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.
As is often the case in a small town, Manchaca doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
In terms of college education, Manchaca is substantially better educated than the typical community in the nation, which has 14.96% of the adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree: 29.66% of adults in Manchaca have a college degree.
The per capita income in Manchaca in 2000 was $28,000, which is wealthy relative to Texas and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $112,000 for a family of four. However, Manchaca contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
Manchaca is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Manchaca home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Manchaca is White, followed by African-American. Manchaca also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 20.42% of the town's residents. Important ancestries of people in Manchaca include German, Irish, English, French, and Italian.
The most common language spoken in Manchaca is English. Some people also speak Spanish.
