About Cochranville

Cochranville is a very small town located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 4,540 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Cochranville is the 396th largest community in Pennsylvania.

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Cochranville is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Cochranville is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cochranville who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.53%), sales jobs (10.16%), and management occupations (6.87%).

Another important characteristic of Cochranville is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 7.31% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

In Cochranville, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 31.63 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.

Cochranville is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Cochranville isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.02% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Cochranville is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
