First of all, many other families with children live here, making Oriskany a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The village's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Oriskany has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Oriskany is a small village, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Oriskany, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 96.86% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.

As is often the case in a small village, Oriskany doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
